Areas East Of Lake Elsinore Getting New Cops On Beat

Beginning Wednesday, residents of the unincorporated communities of Homeland, Juniper Flats, Lakeview and Nuevo will receive Riverside County Sheriff's Department services via the agency's Perris station, instead of Hemet.

"No disruption in service is expected, and the transition is expected to be seamless, as the communities' boundaries are not being altered," said sheriff's Sgt. Robert Rose. "This is to facilitate getting deputies to the communities more quickly."

He said the coverage zone was adjusted after a review of service calls, demographics and other data showed Perris was closer to where affected residents "shop and work."

Homeland, Juniper Flats, Lakeview and Nuevo are generally located within a few miles to the east or south of Perris. The cities of Hemet and Perris are roughly 15 miles apart.

"This is so the communities are not split," sheriff's spokesman Deputy Albert Martinez told City News Service. "Right now, you might have deputies from the Hemet station responding to one part of Nuevo, while deputies from the Perris station are going to another part."

The Perris station, located at 137 N. Perris Blvd., will serve a 286-square-mile area starting Wednesday. The current coverage zone is 236 square miles, according to Rose, adding that there are 142 sworn personnel based at the station.
