Autopsy On Former Lake Elsinore City Councilman Scheduled Today; Homicide Investigation Continues

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department has not announced any arrests in the case, and it has not indicated that it's seeking suspects.

Detectives remain tight-lipped about a homicide investigation that continues in Lake Elsinore.

The Riverside County Coroner’s Office is scheduled to perform an autopsy today on the body of former Lake Elsinore City Councilman George Alongi, according to Sgt. Jeff Buompensiero of the sheriff’s department.

Alongi, 77, was pronounced dead Friday after his body was found at his residence located in the 1000 block of Dolly Way in Lake Elsinore. Click here to read what Alongi’s neighbors had to say about the investigation scene.

Foul play is suspected in the case. Alongi suffered “traumatic injury to his body,” the sergeant said.

Buompensiero did not disclose who discovered Alongi or how long he had been dead, and he declined to speculate on a cause of death.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department has not announced any arrests in the case, although unconfirmed reports indicate a male subject was taken into custody.

The sergeant did not indicate that suspects were currently being sought in the case, but as in all crime cases he did request that citizens who may have information concerning the investigation contact law enforcement. Tipsters should contact Investigator Button at the Sheriff's Central Homicide Unit 760-393-3500 or submit an anonymous tip using the Sheriff's Homicide Tipline online form.

Thank you, and my grandfather did a lot for this city and i couldn't be more proud. He will be missed with out a doubt. Elsinore and our family lost a very out spoken and colorful man on Friday, but we all need to carry on his model of standing up for what's right and putting your foot down on what's wrong.

Bh1995 are you Donna's daughter or Diane's? We grew up together in the grove area. I was friends with both Donna and Diane and Duke was in the same class or just a year younger than me. My thoughts and prayers to you and all of your family at this difficult time for you. I know alot of information hasn't been release but remember Elsinore is still a small town to us longtime residents that know alot of people. We have all heard much more that I won't write about here.

My sincerest condolences to Georges family. I pray the family can find some peace and comfort. To bh1995, I went toschool here with your mom while we were growing up, having lost touch over the years please extend my condolences to her also. Your grandfather was a strong man, who stood by his opinions, he and my father butted heads a few times, as all strong minded men do. I know this is not an easy thing to endure, having lost my father to an extended ilness several years ago, but try to remember him as the man you knew and loved and ignore those who would are sefish enough to try and call attention to themselves by saying hurtful things to you in your time of sorrow.

I'm sorry that someone felt so compelled as to attack and brutalize an old man who's had nothing but problems in his life. That's the mark of a coward! I knew George from the council meetings, and he was quite entertaining to me. I loved it when he shot off his opinions. I guess he was doing what he thought was right? He didn't deserve to die like this, no one does! May he rest easy and the justice be swift to the one who did this crime.
