Beer Truck Hits Fire Hydrant; Minor Flooding In Lake Elsinore

The Budweiser truck was being backed up to Cardenas Market in Lake Elsinore when it hit the hydrant shortly after 6 p.m. Friday.

The driver of a beer truck making a delivery to a Lake Elsinore market Friday inadvertently hit a fire hydrant along the way, causing minor flooding on Mission Trail.

The Budweiser truck was being backed up to Cardenas Market when it struck the hydrant shortly after 6 p.m., according to Ramon Marquez, a private security guard who works at the newly opened market at 31904-31960 Mission Trail.

The truck driver was making a beer delivery, Marquez confirmed.

The impact caused the hydrant to burst, and water surged into the air. Mission Trail sustained some minor flooding that quickly receded after an Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District official shut the water off at the hydrant moments after the incident.

There were no injuries reported, and at press time the beer delivery was underway.

Cardenas is a family owned grocery chain that caters to the Hispanic community. The store moved into the 24,400-square-foot location in April. Founded in 1979, the chain features meat and produce departments, a bakery and tortilleria. The market also offers foods from Mexico, as well as Central and South America. --Daniel Lane contributed to this report.

Too bad it wasn't the Budweiser trucks' contents bursting up into the air like that! I'd be there with my empty cup! (Does this driver even look old enough to be delivering beer?)

Is this an ad for the store or a story about an accident?

It was an accident, the driver shouldn't get fired for this. Elderly people are still driving and killing pedestrians. It was only an insident!!!!

Yes, this was pretty sick. My friend and I were there, on the bikes you see in the first photograph. THe fire hydrant is approximately 20 feet away from the driveway. This dude did not Know how to drive. Fixed for you Ronnie. Here is some advice, Ride that bike over to the nearest school and enroll yourself in an English class. I'm not trying to be mean here, it's just when you write so poorly on the internet it kind of shows your lack of education.
