REWARD OFFERED: Who's Stealing Kevin Jeffries' Campaign Signs?

According to the Jeffries' campaign, the signs were posted on private property in Lake Elsinore, Lakeland Village, Temescal Valley and Wildomar.

A $250 reward was offered Friday for information leading to the arrest of thieves who made off with signs belonging to Assemblyman Kevin Jeffries' campaign for Riverside County Supervisor.

More than 20 large signs were stolen Wednesday night and early Thursday morning in what Jeffries called a "well-coordinated" effort.

"If this was just a run-of-the-mill, random thing where a few signs were taken down, we would have just ignored it," Jeffries told City News Service.

"But this was planned out. You're talking nearly two dozen signs in two cities and two unincorporated communities. That leads us to believe it might have been a couple of trucks running around snatching these signs."

Jeffries, R-Lake Elsinore, is challenging 20-year Supervisor Bob Buster for his First District seat. This is the first time Buster has been forced into a run-off. Jeffries is being termed out of his Assembly seat.

According to the Jeffries' campaign, which is putting up the reward, the signs were posted on private property in Lake Elsinore, Lakeland Village, Temescal Valley and Wildomar.

"They were out in front yards, attached to fences," Jeffries said. "That's $700 worth of four-footers and eight-footers stolen, in a very well-coordinated way."

A Circle K store surveillance camera at Baldwin Boulevard and Grand Avenue in Lake Elsinore captured one of the thefts, but it was uncertain whether the evidence would be sufficient to provide any clues as to the suspects' identities.

"I don't for one minute believe the incumbent orchestrated this himself, but I do believe a few of his overzealous supporters carried this out," Jeffries said. "I've asked him to publicly condemn this activity with us and send a message that this kind of thing won't be tolerated."

Jeffries told City News Service that Buster has not responded to his request.

Anyone with information was urged to call the Riverside County Sheriff's Department at (951) 776-1099, or the Jeffries campaign at (951) 678-4730.
