Clinton Keith Bridge Reopens In Wildomar After Crane Mishap

The mishap was reported around 2:30 p.m. on the west side of the bridge.

As new traffic signals were being installed at the Clinton Keith Road bridge Friday in Wildomar, a crane struck one of the new poles, causing a traffic shutdown.

The mishap was reported around 2:30 p.m. on the west side of the bridge.

According to project spokesman Dennis Green, an electrical subcontractor operating the crane struck the pole and damaged it. The crane tilted over on two wheels as a result of the collision. Emergency crews were called to the scene, all freeway ramps were closed and bridge traffic was halted.

Green said the area was cleared and bridge and freeway ramps reopened at approximately 4:30 p.m., although law enforcement officers were directing traffic due to signal outages.

No one was injured in the incident and Green said further delays are not expected.

New signal lights are being installed at the site as part of the ongoing bridge-widening project.

Green said the project contractor, not the city, is responsible for the damage caused today.

Motorists should expect delays next week, as construction continues at the site. Click here to read about next week’s scheduled freeway closures.
