Ortega (74) Highway was closed this morning to accommodate the recovery of a vehicle that went off the mountainous link between Orange and Riverside counties.

The accident was reported at 6:57 a.m. between the San Juan Fire Station and Candy Store on the Riverside County side of the grade, and the California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert  at 8:49 a.m. when the road was closed to accommodate tow trucks.

It was unclear how long the road would be closed.

Little information was immediately available about the initial accident, in which a box truck went off the road.

Drove by right after it happened. That's going to be an expensive truck rental.
