The coroner’s office has released the name of the Lake Elsinore man killed Sunday morning in a crash on the 15 Freeway.
Frank Caballero, 40, was pronounced dead at the scene Sunday at 1:32 a.m., according to Sgt. Bob Marks of the Riverside County Coroner’s Office. The crash was reported just moments before at 1:10 a.m. on the southbound 15 Freeway, approximately 290 feet south of Old Temescal Road in Corona.
According to a report from Officer Travis Monks of the California Highway Patrol, Caballero was driving a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee on southbound I-15, south of Old Temescal Road, in the #1 lane "at a speed greater than 70 mph" when he struck a 2003 Toyota Highlander driven by a 28-year-old Cypress woman.
The woman was in the #4 lane driving at approximately 55 mph when, "for reasons still under investigation, [Caballero] allowed his vehicle to swerve to the right where the front end collided with the rear end of the Toyota," Monks reported.
