Crash Injures 5 At Lake Elsinore City Limits; Forces Road Closure

All injuries were reported as moderate to serious.

A major collision on Greenwald Avenue, just outside the eastern edge of Lake Elsinore's city limits, left 5 people injured Saturday afternoon.

The two-vehicle crash involving a white Honda and a red GMC truck in the 28100 block of Greenwald at Tyson Road was reported at 12:59 p.m.

The driver of the Honda was traveling southbound on Greenwald when she “made a left-hand turn toward Tyson without checking traffic in front of her and was broadsided by the truck,” explained California Highway Patrol Officer Larry Vicino. “The collision caused the truck to overturn once.”

Three people were in each vehicle – five of the six were transported via ground ambulance to the hospital; the driver of the truck declined treatment, Vicino said.

All injuries were moderate to serious, Vicino added.

Greenwald was closed for approximately one hour as officers investigated the crash.

“Speed wasn’t a factor in this collision,” Vicino said, but advised drivers need to be careful when checking for traffic.

Alcohol and drugs are not believed to factors in the crash either. --Daniel Lane contributed to this report.
