A male victim is in grave condition Tuesday after crashing his vehicle Monday night on Lake Street in Lake Elsinore.
The major-injury, single-vehicle rollover crash occurred at around 10 p.m. about a half-mile east of Nichols Road.
Responding officers arrived at 10:04 p.m. and found the driver trapped in his vehicle and suffering from a major head injury.
The driver was extricated by Cal Fire and transported to Inland Valley Medical Center.
Today the Lake Elsinore Police Department is reporting the driver suffered a massive skull fracture and is in grave condition.
Preliminary investigate efforts indicate the victim was traveling west on Lake Street “at a high rate of speed, when he lost control of the vehicle, crossed over oncoming lanes, struck a dirt embankment, a tree, then rolled several times before coming to rest in the eastbound lanes of travel,” according to the Lake Elsinore Police Department report.
Lake Street was closed for the investigation across all lanes and re-opened around 4 a.m. Tuesday.
The driver's identity has not been released by authorities; no other injuries were reported.
