UPDATED: Wildfire South of Corona Caused by Outdoor Cooking

Dubbed the Skyline fire, the non-injury blaze was reported around 4:45 p.m. in the area of Clearing Circle and Meandering Lane, in foothills that back up to the Cleveland National Forest, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

UPDATE 8:28 p.m. Oct. 16:

A brush fire that broke out Wednesday afternoon south of Corona near Clearing Circle and Meandering Lane was fully contained to seven acres by 7 p.m., a fire official said.

The cause was determined to be outdoor open flame cooking, according to CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Jody Hagemann.

Ground crews were expected to remain on scene until at least 11 p.m., Hagemann reported.

A wildfire broke out today on the south end of Corona, scorching seven acres but not immediately threatening any homes.

Dubbed the Skyline fire, the non-injury blaze was reported around 4:45 p.m. in the area of Clearing Circle and Meandering Lane, in foothills that back up to the Cleveland National Forest, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

Crews from the county, the city of Corona and Cal Fire were attempting to get a line around the brusher with the assistance of air tankers and water-dropping helicopters, according to reports from the scene.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
