UPDATE: Man Booked For Murder Of Murrieta Man

Jorge Martinez, 41, was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for the murder of Sergio Corona, 47.

7/4 UPDATE: A suspect has been booked for the murder of a Murrieta resident whose body was found in a planter.

Saturday at approximately 5:30 p.m., police detained Jorge Martinez, 41, of Homeland. According to a police report, Central Homicide Unit investigators identified Martinez as a suspect in the murder of Sergio Corona, 47. 

Corona's body was found June 20 concealed within a planter located adjacent to the west alleyway behind some businesses in the 200 block of North D Street in Perris.

"Information obtained through interviews and physical evidence linked Martinez to the murder," according to a police report. Martinez was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for murder.

6/21 UPDATE: The body of a Hispanic man found concealed behind a planter in Perris Monday afternoon has been identified as Sergio Corona, 47, of Murrieta, according to the Riverside County Coroner.

6/21 ORIGINAL POST: Police are seeking any information from the public that will aid in an investigation into a body that was found in Perris Monday afternoon.

The body of an adult Hispanic male was found shortly after 2 p.m. in the 200 block of North D Street.

The body was “concealed within a planter located adjacent to the west alleyway behind some businesses,” according to a Riverside County Sheriff’s Department report.

The Riverside County Coroner’s office has ruled that the man was a homicide victim. Cause of death has not been released.

The victim’s exact time of death has not been released by the coroner’s office; he was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:19 p.m. Monday.

The man’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
