A 7-month-old girl was on life support Friday afternoon in Moreno Valley, where she was "not expected to survive" suspicious injuries, and homicide detectives were trying to learn more about how she was hurt, a sheriff's sergeant said.

Deputies responded to a report of possible child abuse at Riverside County Regional Medical Center in Moreno Valley, shortly after 5 p.m. Monday Dec. 23, Sgt. Todd Torrenti of the sheriff's Central Homicide Unit said in a statement.

Medical personnel told deputies a 7-month-old female was brought into the hospital having difficulty breathing, Torrenti said.

"After several medical procedures, it was determined the victim had suspicious injuries and was put on life support," Torrenti said. "The 7-month-old female is not expected to survive and is currently on life support for the purposes of organ donation."

Torrenti did not disclose who brought the girl to the hospital or whether the girl's parents have been identified, questioned or detained.

The sergeant urged anyone with more info regarding to call Investigator Dean at (951) 955-2777, or Detective Posson at (951) 486-6700.
