"Distressed" Woman Leads Way for Robbers to Access Canyon Lake Home, Tie Up Owner, Steal

Sheriff's officials say a woman who claimed to need help knocked on a Canyon Lake man's door-- leading the way for two men to barge inside and ransack the place.

A car and household items were stolen and the homeowner tied up during a home invasion robbery in Canyon Lake, authorities said Thursday.

The victim, located in the 30000 block of Channel Way Drive, was confronted after being asked for assistance by a woman who knocked at his door around 12:30 p.m.  Wednesday, Riverside County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Gil Gonzalez said.

But that turned out to be a ruse.

"At that time two white male adults forced their way inside the residence, threatened the victim with weapons, and restrained the victim," Gonzalez said.

The residence was ransacked, with the suspects also taking the victim's 2012 Kia Soul compact, Gonzalez said.

"A short time later the victim was able to free himself and contacted local police," the sergeant said.

Gonzalez said the suspects left in a blue compact vehicle and the victim's car.  The license plate for that 2012 Kia Sol is #6WSW075.

Anyone with information on the robbers was asked to contact the Riverside Sheriff's Department's Perris Station at (951) 210-1000.
