A motorist plowed into a utility pole in Wildomar, knocking out power and forcing a road closure, a sheriff's sergeant said today.
Sheriff's deputies received a call at 6 p.m. Friday about the crash at the corner of Clinton Keith Drive and Covington Road, where a Nissan pickup truck was found resting up against the pole that was leaning toward the roadway, according to Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. David Cardoza.
The driver escaped injury, but the utility pole was severely damaged. The outage affected an undisclosed number of businesses and homes. The eastbound lane of Clinton Keith Road between Smith Ranch Road and Covington Drive was closed to traffic until early today to allow Southern California Edison workers to make repairs, Cardoza said.
Drunk driving does not appear to have played a role in the crash, Cardoza said.
