DUI Checkpoint Planned For Saturday Night

Sheriff's deputies are set to staff a DUI checkpoint in Lake Elsinore, at an undisclosed location, officials said.

The checkpoint will be staffed from 8 p.m. Saturday to 3 a.m. Sunday.

Riverside County sheriff's deputies from the Lake Elsinore station will be screening drivers for signs of intoxication or other impairment.

Deputies will also check for license violations, according to sheriff's Sgt. Peter Giannakakos.

"Drivers caught driving impaired can expect jail, license suspension and insurance increases," Giannakakos wrote in a news release.

The sergeant added that over the last three years, deputies in Lake Elsinore investigated 58 drunken driving collisions in which 71 persons were injured and six were killed.
