According to eyewitnesses, the teen didn't appear to brake and collided with the driver's side of the Accord as it turned left onto westbound SR 74 from Riverside Drive, Sgt. Sawasaki said.

The Accord driver was killed in the crash. There was one passenger in the Honda but there was no word on extent of injuries.

A report on the teen's condition was unavailable.

No identities had been released at press time.

The sergeant said further investigation was needed to determine if speed was a  factor in the crash.

Eyewitnesses estimated that the truck was traveling between 55 and 60 mph, the sergeant said.

At press time, it was not clear whether drugs or alcohol were a factor.

"It's still too early in the investigation," the sergeant reiterated.

The eastbound side of SR 74 was shut down at Riverside Street and traffic was backed up into Lake Elsinore for nearly two hours. Vehicles were being directed onto Riverside Street.

One lane on the westbound side of the highway remained open during the crash investigation, according to a Patch reporter on scene.

The name of the person killed was withheld pending notification of kin.
