Woman Dies From Injuries Sustained In Car Accident

According to a Riverside County Fire Department/Cal Fire report, the accident occurred just after 8 a.m. Friday near the intersection of Grand Ave. and Gregory Place.

2/13 Update:

The Riverside County Coroner's Office is reporting that Janel Smith, 44, the woman who died after sustaining critical injuries in a two-car crash in Lakeland Village, was a Temecula resident.

Earlier reports indicated she was a Wildomar resident.

According to the coroner's report, Smith died at 3:20 p.m. at Inland Valley Medical Center as a result of her injuries.

The report stated that the accident occurred on Grand Avenue, 820 feet north of Gregory Place. --Toni McAllister

A Wildomar woman has died from injuries she suffered today when the vehicle she was riding in was broadsided by another car in Lakeland Village.

Janel Smith, 44, died this afternoon at the Inland Valley Regional Medical Center in Wildomar. Smith was one of four passengers in a vehicle struck around 8 a.m. at the intersection of Grand Avenue and Gregory Place, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP Officer Ron Thatcher said a Wildomar man, 56-year-old Edward Temple, was heading northbound on Grand in a 1990 Ford Thunderbird when he made an abrupt left turn into the path of a southbound 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass.

The Cutlass driver "attempted to brake but could not avoid the Thunderbird,'' Thatcher said. "The front of the Cutlass struck the right rear door, causing injuries to five people.''

Smith was sitting closest to the point of impact and was partially ejected out the rear window of the Thunderbird, according to Thatcher.

The other occupants suffered minor to moderate injuries. --City News Service

One person was seriously injured and four others suffered minor to moderate injuries today when their vehicle was broadsided by another car in Lakeland Village.

The collision happened about 8 a.m. at the intersection of Grand Avenue and Gregory Place, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A two-vehicle collision in Lakeland Village has left five people injured, one seriously.

According to a Riverside County Fire Department/Cal Fire report, the accident occurred just after 8 a.m. Friday near the intersection of Grand Ave. and Gregory Place.

According to the report, one person had to be extricated from one of vehicles and was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries.

Four other people were also transported to a local hospital with injuries -- two moderate and two minor, the report stated.

Sixteen firefighters were on the scene, along with three ambulances, four engines and one overhead personnel. --City News Service
