Freeway Police Chase Ends In Temecula

The chase began in Riverside, then continued on the 15 Freeway south, through Corona, Lake Elsinore, Wildomar, and Murrieta, before ending in Temecula.

A motorcyclist who fled from Riverside police today after allegedly committing several traffic violations ended up leading officers on a roughly 50-mile chase before surrendering.

The chase began around 4:45 p.m. on Central Avenue when a Riverside patrol unit attempted to stop the rider of a blue Yamaha for unspecified infractions, according to reports from the scene.

The motorcyclist fled at speeds reaching 115 mph, weaving in and out of traffic in an attempt to get away, officers said.

Ten minutes into the chase, the suspect, whose name was not released, drove onto the westbound Riverside (91) Freeway, where California Highway Patrol officers joined the chase.

The motorcyclist got off the freeway at Tyler Street, went north to Magnolia Avenue, then cut back west, rejoining the freeway at McKinley Street before heading south on Interstate 15, according to police.

Riverside patrol units backed out of the pursuit at that point, leaving CHP units and a Riverside police helicopter crew to follow the fleeing man south into Temecula, where he exited onto city streets and headed onto the grounds of the Pechanga Resort & Casino. The suspect surrendered outside the casino around 5:20 p.m.

No injuries were reported, and the man was returned to Riverside and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center.
