A head-on crash in Lake Elsinore Friday has injured three people.

The California Highway Patrol reported the smash-up between a black Ford Mustang and a black Volvo S60 at 9:59 a.m. on Nichols Road, just west of the 15 Freeway.

Two males sustained minor injuries and one female sustained moderate injuries in the crash, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County engineer John Huecker from station #85. The female and one male were transported to a nearby hospital, Huecker said.

Nichols Road has been shut down and is expected to remain closed until about 11:30 a.m.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

This road is very convenient for those of us on the northshore but very dangerous in some stretches. Additionally posted speed limits should be reduced. Does someone have to be killed on this road before re-evaluating?

Speed limit is 50; the same as Lake. The problem is not the speed limit, it is the people that are going much, much faster than that. And, they are passing the folks that do the speed limit.

This is a convenient road and thank God no one was killed, accidents do happen, that is why they are called accidents.

If you're struck by another car whose driver is DUI'ing, are you still considered to have been in a "car accident"?

Yes, you are still in a car accident, it is just you would not be at fault. and Fault is where your insurance rates go way up!

Wow I was just pulling out of the Arco the other day with my son and noticed a car traveling at a very high rate of speed Eastbound up the hill and I said to him that we all need to be more careful here now that there is pavement all the way down Nocholas. Glad nobody was killed this time.

@lake Elsinore Resident...... How could they have been racing when they hit head on?

@Paul. LER is a troll. Please don't feed the trolls if ya know what I mean!

The planning Commision should pave Terra Cotta Rd. Then Nichols Rd would be would be convenient for west side residents who dontt want to deal with the debacle known as "FOUR CORNERS".

Lake Elsinore Resident, You comments regarding this accident makes you appear to be quite ignorant. This accident was an accident involving my wife on the way to pick-up my daughter from soccer practice, not racing a car going in the opposite direction. "Paul" is correct in his statement as they were traveling in opposite directions. Please retain your ignorant statements as my wife sustained life-threatening injuries as she is now currently going through the healing process and is hopeful to be able to walk without any additional assistance.
