Hit-And-Run Driver Leads Police On Chase Through Downtown Lake Elsinore

Tuesday's chase resulted in a broken water main on Main Street.

A man who struck a vehicle while driving under the influence in Lake Elsinore and then fled the scene is now in custody, police are reporting.

Felipe Rivera, 22, was arrested in the 32000 block of Wildomar, then transported and booked into the Southwest Justice Center for hit and run, driving under the influence and obstructing/delaying a peace officer.

According to a report from the Lake Elsinore Police Department, Rivera crashed into a vehicle near Dexter and Central avenues around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. He was reportedly driving a white Nissan sedan.

“While en-route officers spotted the white Nissan, which attempted to leave the area at a high rate of speed. The vehicle jumped the curb at Main Street and Pottery Street. The vehicle struck a tree and a small water main.”

The broken main forced the closure of eastbound Main Street Tuesday night as crews worked to repair the damage.

According to the police report, Rivera fled the scene on foot but was later apprehended at the Wildomar address.
