Homicide Investigation Underway In Alleged Burglary Case

Menifee resident Sammy White, 38, was killed shortly before noon Wednesday after he allegedly tried to force his way into a house in the 23600 block of Badger Creek Lane, said Sgt. Brian Reno of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

A man who was allegedly attempting to burglarize a Menifee residence was fatally shot by the tenant, according to a Riverside County sheriff's sergeant.

Menifee resident Sammy White, 38, was killed shortly before noon Wednesday after he allegedly tried to force his way into a house in the 23600 block of Badger Creek Lane, said Sgt. Brian Reno of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

He said an occupant of the house -- who was not identified -- called 911 saying that a man was breaking into the residence. Moments later, a neighbor called 911 reporting that shots had been fired at the location, he said, adding that White lived on the same block.

Deputies arrived within minutes and discovered White gravely wounded, Reno said. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

The resident was not hurt.

No arrests were made, but detectives are continuing to investigate the incident as a homicide, the sergeant said. --City News Service and Toni McAllister contributed to this report.
