UPDATED: Crash That Closed Corydon Road Caused By Suspected Drunk Driver

The crash was reported at 5:41 p.m.

UPDATED Nov. 4, 2013 at 6:51 a.m.: A crash that closed Corydon Road Sunday night and left four people injured was caused by a drunk driver who fled the scene, police are reporting.

The crash occurred at approximately 5:41 p.m. near Melinda Lane on Corydon.

According to a news release from Sgt. Nathan Kaas, a witness reported seeing a white vehicle swerving into oncoming traffic. To avoid crashing into the erratic driver, the driver of a Mitsubishi Montero made "evasive movements" and instead collided into a GMC Sierra truck, the sergeant reported.

Police searched for the white vehicle and its driver and found him in the 17000 block of Mackay Avenue in Lakeland Village.

Elmar Perez, 33, a resident of Lakeland Village, was detained and arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, fleeing the scene of a crash and driving without a license, according to Kaas.

"Due to confidentiality, the names of the injured parties will not be released," the sergeant continued.

Corydon was closed Sunday night as police investigated the crash.
