Injury Crash On Ortega Highway Forces Closure

Both lanes of traffic were shut down on the Ortega during rescue efforts, according to the CHP.

A solo-vehicle crash on the Ortega Highway, just west of Lake Elsinore, prompted a closure of the roadway Saturday morning, according to authorities.

The crash was reported just after 9:30 a.m. near mile marker 11.

According to CHP reports, a gray Ford pickup truck went over the side of the highway where there are no guardrails.

Crews were able to get to the vehicle and, according to a Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department report, one person was ejected during the crash and was transported to an area hospital with major injuries.

At press time, the roadway has been cleared.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

No other injuries were reported.
