Interstate Fire Near Temescal Canyon Causes Cautionary Advisory

"Motorists are urged to drive with caution along I -15 and yield to emergency vehicles," said Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Jody Hagemann.

UPDATE 9:30 p.m.: The Interstate fire at Temescal Canyon Road and the I-15 Freeway burned a total of 15 acres today, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Jody Hagemann.

Firefighters have remained on the scene well into the night mopping up the blaze. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

UPDATE: At 4:55 p.m. Monday, Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire announced the Temescal Canyon Rd. offramp from southbound I-15 that was closed due to the Interstate fire has been cleared for re-opening.

UPDATE: At 2:20 p.m., Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Jody Hagemann reports that the Interstate fire at Temescal Canyon Road and the I-15 has been contained.

The fire burned 10 acres and caused officials to issue a caution to motorists.

“Motorists are urged to drive with caution along I -15 and yield to emergency vehicles,” Hagemann said.

A road closure is in place on Temescal Canyon Road between I-15 and Lawson Road and is expected to stay in effect until after 3 p.m. Traffic is slow on the 15 Freeway.

One hundred firefighters have been on the blaze that is being called the Interstate fire. No injuries have been reported.

ORIGINAL POST: A wildland fire burning near the southbound 15 Freeway at Temescal Canyon Road has caused Cal Fire officials to issue a caution to motorists.

The blaze was reported at 1:10 p.m. and has burned approximately 10 acres in light grasses, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Jody Hagemann.

“Motorists are urged to drive with caution along I -15 and yield to emergency vehicles,” Hagemann said.

A road closure is in place on Temescal Canyon Road between I-15 and Lawson Road.
