Investigation Continues Into Body Found In Wildomar

An investigation into the death of Alan Crone, 56, of Wildomar, continues.

The investigation into the death of a Wildomar man whose body was found Aug. 10 near a city street is actively continuing, according to a sheriff’s sergeant.

“We’re still very much involved in this case,” said Sgt. Ruben Escobar of the Riverside County Coroner’s Office.

An autopsy on the body of Alan Crone, 56, of Wildomar was performed Monday, Escobar confirmed. The sergeant said there were no obvious signs of any assault-type injuries, but the investigation continues.

The coroner’s office has not released a cause or time of death, but Escobar confirmed at press time the case has not been referred to the sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit.

“Not at this time,” he said Thursday afternoon.

Cases where foul play is suspected are referred to the CHU.

According to a neighbor of Crone's who asked not to be identified, the deceased lived on Dunn Street and was a kind man who may have been unfairly judged.

Crone struggled with alcohol dependency, often looked unkempt and sometimes asked for money, however the neighbor described the deceased as "sweet, giving and gentle."

Crone told others he was a Vietnam War veteran, the neighbor added. Given his age as provided by the coroner's office, it is not clear Crone would have been old enough to have served in that conflict.

Crone’s body was found just after 7 p.m. along Central Street in Wildomar, approximately 200 feet west of Front Street, according to a coroner's news release.
The coroner's office had originally listed Crone's address as Lake Elsinore and it was suspected he was a transient. However, Escobar confirmed Thursday Crone did reside in Wildomar.
