Investigators Hunt For Hit-And-Run Driver

The commotion at Allis, Lash and Brown streets Tuesday was due to an ongoing traffic investigation, according to Riverside County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Deputy Albert Martinez. Multiple patrol cars, an overhead sheriff’s department helicopter, and deputies with rifles were spotted in the area.

According to police scanner chatter, deputies were pursuing a suspect in the area, but Martinez did not confirm the reports Tuesday.

Late Wednesday, however, more information was available, albeit limited.

Deputies responded to a hit-and-run in which a vehicle crashed into private property, damaging a fence, and the driver fled from the scene, Martinez explained. “The helicopter was called and a search for the driver was conducted,” he said. “The driver was not found and even though he got away investigators are working some leads at this time.”

The driver’s name and his description have not been released. During the onscene investigation, police were focused on a silver Dodge Durango parked in the area.
