Lake Elsinore DUI Checkpoint Nets Two Arrests

Kevin Garner, 21, and Ronald King, 70, both of Lake Elsinore, were taken into custody for driving under the influence.

The results of the Lake Elsinore Police Department DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint that began at 8 p.m. Dec. 16 and ended today at 3 a.m. are in.

The checkpoint at Lake Street and Lakeshore Drive resulted in two arrests, Sgt. Marc Cloutier of the Lake Elsinore Sheriff's Station reported.

According to a news release from the sergeant, 701 vehicles passed through the checkpoint: 19 were sent to secondary screening; six people were given field sobriety tests; seven vehicles were impounded; and six unlicensed and suspended drivers were sent to court.

The crackdown was part of a ramped-up campaign by law enforcement to crack down on holiday DUI. The enhanced enforcement is scheduled to last through Jan. 2.
