A 35-year veteran pilot instructor was forced to land in La Cresta off Calle De Lobo and Paseo Montana Wednesday.
Lake Elsinore Soaring Club Instructor Richard Ensign was carrying a student who was on his 11th lesson flight when the high head winds would not allow them to make it back to the Skylark Field landing strip in Lake Elsinore.
The pilot did some very aggressive banking through the mountains and over the tree lines of La Cresta to make it to a flat lot. He was able to put the plane down without event.
Ensign said it was his first emergency landing in his 35 years of gliding.—Submitted by Ed Wold
