UPDATE: Lake Elsinore Man Arrested After Scuffle With Wildomar Cops

The suspect, identified as Nathanael Cornish, 28, of Lake Elsinore, was apprehended near La Estrella Street and Portica Court in Wildomar, jail records show.

UPDATE at 11:33 a.m.: According to Riverside County Sheriff's Sgt. Lisa McConnell, the suspect was also arrested March 20 on suspicion of child abuse.

A 28-year-old man who allegedly fought with deputies in order to resist arrest is behind bars.

The incident began at 11:59 p.m. Wednesday when deputies from the Wildomar Police Department responded to a call of a suspicious vehicle in the 35000 block of Verde Vista Way and Bella Oaks in Wildomar, according to a report from Sgt. Linda Maria Hughes.

When deputies arrived, they found three people found smoking pot in the vehicle, the sergeant reported.

“The driver, on probation, was being questioned when he suddenly pushed the officer and ran from the area,” Hughes stated.

With the help of the sheriff’s helicopter, the man was found hiding a short distance away, the sergeant reported.

As deputies attempted to handcuff the suspect, he fought with them, Hughes continued.

“Officers were able to handcuff the suspect and transport him to the station for booking,” she said.

The suspect, identified as Nathanael Cornish, 28, of Lake Elsinore, was apprehended near La Estrella Street and Portica Court in Wildomar, jail records show. He sustained minor injuries during the scuffle but deputies were unhurt, according to the sergeant’s report.

After a trip to the hospital, Cornish was transported to Southwest Detention Center, Hughes reported. According to jail records, he was booked on suspicion of resisting a peace officer, probation violation and resisting arrest; he is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail.
