Lake Elsinore Man's Alleged Ruckus Lands Him In Jail

John Mejia, 23, was arrested Thursday night.

A Lake Elsinore man is behind bars for allegedly injuring a deputy from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

John Mejia, 23, was arrested shortly after 7 p.m. Thursday near the JP Morgan Chase Bank in the 31500 block of Canyon Estates Drive for being under the influence, resisting arrest, delay, obstruction, and battery on a peace officer.

According to a news release from Riverside County Sheriff’s Sgt. Tony Hoxmeier, deputies were called to the scene due to reports of “a man yelling and screaming in front of a business and displaying signs of being under the influence of a narcotic.”

The man was later identified as Mejia.

“While attempting to detain the suspect, he became physical with officers and one officer was injured during the struggle,” the sergeant reported. “The suspect continued to resist officers and a K-9 was deployed.”

Deputies were able to restrain Mejia and he was taken into custody.
