Deputies from the Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station continued a long-time tradition today of spreading holiday cheer to local needy children as part of the annual Cops for Kids program.

Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station Captain Shelley Kennedy-Smith, along with several of her lieutenants, sergeants and deputies, hand-delivered gifts Saturday morning to underprivileged youth living throughout the Lake Elsinore Unified School District boundaries. Local Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department crews also gave their time to the event.

For some of Saturday’s young recipients, the Cops for Kids presents may be all they receive this holiday season.

Thanks to all of those area residents and organizations who helped us this year. The students in our schools were very generous with this years with the toy and coin drive. This was a joint effort of the LEUSD, Sheriff's Department, and Cal Fire and Cops for Kids. Yesterday, off duty Sheriff's department staff and Explorers delivered presents to almost 200 homes and over 400 children. The Cal Fire staff was right there with us in their fire trucks delivering as well and supplying toys through the "Spark of Love" program. It was a great day for all of us, and children saw that our law enforcement officers are also compassionate and caring family members while they are also tasked with other often difficult responsibilities that go along with being police officers. Again, thank you to all that helped make the day possible for our children in the valley. Tom Thomas Executive Director Cops for Kids, Inc.
