UPDATE: Lure Of Gang Life May Have Prompted Teen's Disappearance From Lake Elsinore

Sixteen-year-old Anton Martinez, who’s also known by the name Anton Roberts, went missing Sunday.

UPDATE 11/15 at 11:58 p.m.: Anton Martinez has been found safe, according to his stepfather David Roberts.

ORIGINAL POST: A missing teen who vanished Sunday night from Lake Elsinore may be with others who are tempting him to join a gang, according to the child’s stepfather.

“We are very worried about him. He’s never been in any kind of trouble,” said David Roberts.

“He just vanished,” Roberts said. “He left his cell phone and his iPad. He doesn’t have any clothes.”

Roberts, his two daughters, along with Anton and his mother, were visiting friends in Anaheim over the weekend. The family used to live in Lake Elsinore but now resides in Clayton, Calif., near Walnut Creek.

Anton was allowed to catch up with buddies in Lake Elsinore, but when it was time to pick him up Sunday he was gone, Roberts said.

Anton was last seen at 6 p.m. Sunday, Roberts said.

A missing person report was filed at approximately 11 p.m. Monday night, according to Cpl. Angel Ramos of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Ramos said foul play is not suspected.

Roberts said he believes his stepson disappeared with a minor who may be driving a 2001 black Lincoln, license plate number 6RWF846.

“I am worried they are trying to get him to join a gang,” Roberts said, noting that through the search process he has been troubled by what he’s seeing on his stepson’s friends’ Facebook pages.

“These kids are out and about – pills, weapons,” he said. “Parents need to be aware.”

Roberts said he is hearing that area youth are planning a big party Friday in the Quail Valley area, and he thinks Anton might be headed there.

“We just don’t know,” he said.

Anton is described as Hispanic with a thin build, weighing 110 pounds and 5’5” tall. He has an olive complexion, and short/medium black hair that he wears spiked or brushed straight forward, a flyer states.

He was last seen wearing gray shorts, a dark gray T-shirt, and a navy blue Lake Elsinore Little League All Star jacket with gold lettering. He was also wearing a diamond-like earring in each ear and white sunglasses.

Anyone with information on the teen’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department at 951-776-1099.

Isn't there a tweaker/criminal alien camp near the Wildomar/Murrieta border? They keep seeming to pop up around there..Gangs might be there too During the last Great Depression fed-up residents in California towns would clean out the "Hoovervilles" and chase these undesirables out into the scrub far away from city limits. If you want to protect your loved ones it might have to be considered during this Depression...

So sad. Nothing ever comes out good with gangs. Just torn families, trouble, killings, etc. hopefully he gets out of the "lure" and gets on the right path.

I am one of his teachers. If they are trying to get this kid to join a gang, then they will have to force him. He just isn't that kind of kid. I hope he is with friends. I'm praying for his safe return to his family who I know is very protective, loving and broken-hearted at this time.

The path to hell is paved with gold. A young desperate tempted mind is easily corrupted. If you think your kids deserve privacy you are dead wrong or should I say gang wrong, same difference.

We only have one or two cops in Wildomar. Why are our crime stats so much lower than surrounding areas? Under reporting?

Best wishes to this family on finding their son. Even if he has run away to be with friends I know his parents must be frantic. Hopefully he will realize what has done and return home. I am worried that something may have happened to him and I wish there was something we could do to help this family. I think that if it was a young lady of this age more people would be concerned, but he could be in as much danger as a young lady. I just pray that he returns home soon safe and unharmed.

The time to start monitoring your kids Facebook friend pages should not be only after they have gone missing.

We actually have no cops. Wildomar is broke and on the verge of bankruptcy. About two months ago I spoke with a deputy from the Riverside sheriffs dept that was on patrol in wildomar and he told me that he was rented by Lake Elsinore to patrol the wildomar area and that he was the only law enforcement for the area. And he seemed as bright as a burned out light bulb. Wildomar has spent so much money on opening parks for these young hoodlums to hang out in that they don't have any money left to secure or maintain the parks let alone pay for law enforcement. Wildomar has owed me $200 in illegal taxes assesed on my property for over 21/2 years and ordered by the state to refund me my money but all I have gotten from them is one sorry excuse after another each time I call about my money. The last time I spoke with the city manager he said the city was broke and had spent all of the property tax money on opening new parks and had no idea when or how they will ever be able to refund the money they illegally over charged me.
