Maintenance Worker Admits to Sexual Battery of Elderly Disabled Patient

David Moreno of Riverside committed the acts over a two-month period during 2012 at Emeritus Senior Living in Yorba Linda, according to the Orange County District Attorney's Office.

A Riverside man who sexually assaulted a 69-year-old disabled woman at an Orange County assisted living facility was sentenced today to three years in prison.

David Moreno, 29, pleaded guilty Dec. 6 to one count each of sexual battery on an institutionalized victim and sexual penetration with a foreign object.

Along with prison time, Moreno will have to register as a convicted sex offender for the rest of his life, limiting where he can work and live, according to prosecutors.

The Orange County District Attorney's Office said the offenses occurred at the Emeritus Senior Living complex in the 17800 block of Imperial Highway in Yorba Linda between June 1 and July 24, 2012.

Moreno was on the facility's maintenance staff. Prosecutors said he entered the room of a dementia patient, whose condition left her vulnerable, and assaulted her.

The victim confided to a close friend that she had been sexually abused, culminating in an investigation that resulted in the defendant's arrest on Nov. 5, 2012, according to the D.A.'s office.
