Man Dies in Hotel Room Shooting at Pechanga Casino in Temecula

Sheriff's dispatchers received a 911 call at 11 p.m. Friday about a man with a number of undisclosed gunshot wounds found in the lobby.

A man was fatally shot in a hotel room during an outburst of domestic violence at the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, and a woman was somehow injured, deputies said Saturday.

Sheriff's dispatchers received a 911 call at 11 p.m. Friday about a man with a number of undisclosed gunshot wounds found in the lobby. The victim who was described as a man in his 50s was taken to Temecula Valley Hospital where he later died of his injuries, Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Raymond Huskey said.

The man's name was not released pending notification of relatives.

Casino spokeswoman Ciara Green said the shooting happened in a hotel room. A woman believed to have some connection with the dying man was also found in the hotel room.

She had non-life threatening injuries, but details and her relationship with the victim was not specified. All the "involved parties" are known to sheriff's detectives, Huskey said today, but it was not disclosed whether anyone was arrested in connection with the shooting.

Earlier, sheriff's Deputy Armando Munoz said the homicide stemmed from domestic violence.

Green couldn't recall when was the last time something this severe ever happened at the casino, adding that it was "very unfortunate."

The casino continued its business Friday night while sheriff's detectives conducted their investigation in the lobby area and hotel room following the shooting, Green said.

In a written statement, Green later said the casino and its staff are "saddened by this domestic incident that occurred in a hotel room."

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the individuals involved in this unfortunate, isolated incident," she said.

There are no "native" Americans. The aborigines migrated from Manchuria over 40,000 years ago, explaining their copper-colored skins and epithelial eyefold. They are visitors like the rest of us, and deserve no special privileges. Anyone who thinks they are "native" didn't pay much attention in high school....

thats a great idea ! close the casino its full of evil anyway. no more crimes no more shootings and people will still have their money at the end of the night and temecula will be a better place to live because of it.

I like and agree with what John blackwood says. The Patriot movement is all about encouraging "free individuals". This is not based on race ethnicity or color of skin. It is the mass media and uninformed citizens who separate the country and want to portray Patriots as anything other than true American patriots. Let people disagree as this is supposedly a free country. A little courtesy and civility is certainly welcome, especially if you want your thoughts to be considered.

The Pechanga are parasites upon our community. They are given tax-free autonomy and special privileges. What, is this apartheid? They build casinos which fuel gambling addictions and drunk drivers. (funny how alcohol destroyed their culture yet they serve it). They bring organized crime into the area. If they are true Americans, they will assimilate into our society, like all other immigrants. Those reservations were designed as concentration camps and should be dissolved. Our government closed the Manzanar internment camp for Japanese-Americans in WW2; the Pechanga need to be released from their prison as well. We don't need bantustans here.

Alek...you can't be serious.

Pechanga better not close the buffet over a little disturbance. A dead body will never detour me when I am hungry. Bon Appétit

Steve, you keep it classy as usual. Had you paid attention in class, you'd know that wishful is one word. Your wish will be fulfilled eventually. Until then, may you live long and prosper. Beam me out of Patch again, Scotty. }>}>}>}>}>}>}>ooooo

Alek you are quite an ignorant individual. Had it not been for that tribe all of Temecula would be breathing crap from the mine that Granite construction was going to have. Also I'd like to know where you get your info on them not paying taxes. They pay a hell of lot more than you or I to State and Federal, and let us not forget they are sovereign. I'm sure some of the local tax companies can attest to you that they do indeed pay taxes. Also they employ a large amount of individuals from Riverside county. Is it the highest paying jobs, probably not but how qualified are these individuals taking the jobs? It never ceases to amaze me how often I hear people bag on these people when all they are trying to do is better themselves like you or I or America for that matter. You know which people sit back complaining about others? The ones that are jealous of them. Go sit at your computer and educate yourself on items before you speak of things that you know nothing about.

You are the ignorant one. Bantustans were "sovereign" tribal reservations in South Africa. Some of them tried casinos too. Since they were "sovereign" they didnt get to vote in Pretoria. If the Pechanga want to be truly soverign than demand passports and visas. JUST LIKE GAZA. Abolish the reservations. We are all Americans, even so-called "native" ones. No special privilege for "tribals" You want apartheid? go to Capetown.

Thank Goodness I'm not predjudice. I couldn't live like that. I hate all Mexicans, Blacks, Asians, non English speaking foreigners and politicians equally.
southernbelle February 24, 2014 at 11:54 AM
but Alek--if you take away the special privileges which are presumably eternally owed to the Native Americans for the dishonor and horrendous acts done against them by our forefathers, it would only be fair that our nation would, equally, have to take away the special privileges allotted to African Americans. It is restitution for an eternal sin that many people of these 2 races will never forgive the white man for, and every generation of white man will continue to pay for the sins of their fore-fathers until there is ample multi-racial breeding that might hopefully bridge this racist, hateful, great divide. I actually understand exactly what your saying--and although many see it as hateful-it actually makes sense in that, if the4se reservations were abolished, there would be no division--and if there is no division, there may be peace. In your opinion--reservations, special privileges, exemptions, etc only feed the division/segregation and keep the racism and hatred alive.

So has there been any other public mention of this shooting? I'm calling a love triangle that went sideways. Pechanga is home to a great number of swingers. Use your imagination and connect the dots....perhaps.
Jimd February 24, 2014 at 12:47 PM
"Domestic violence" in a casino hotel room is PR spin for "hooker violence". Most likely there's more to the story that is being kept under wraps with hopes that public interest will soon fade.
K4299R February 24, 2014 at 01:23 PM
Brenda, first of all you say "people won't want to come to OUR casino" it isn't YOUR casino, you are not a Pechanga Indian. All you others who believe Indians shouldn't have casinos and all the other nonsense, thank YOUR ancestors for putting them on reservations, making them sovereign, and thank your fellow Californians who voted to allow the casinos on reservations.
Good Grief February 24, 2014 at 03:57 PM
Swingers, hookers, racism, politics? Did I miss something in the article? The point is a man died and a woman with injuries! It doesn't matter if he or she are red, green, or purple. This could have happened anywhere. Would there be this much speculation if this happened at another hotel or city? Good gawd...people ASSume too much.
Steve Newman February 24, 2014 at 05:16 PM
Paul- that is all you have- a spelling correction? Come on , where is your sense of community- is that only for elections? Beam you up- that is pretty optimistic of you- that you are going UP.

the United States has been paying slavery reparations to African Americans for nearly 70 years now----- IT'S CALLED WELFARE.
john ryerson February 24, 2014 at 05:44 PM
most people don't know this but there were more white slaves than black slaves and what kind of reparations did the white man get?

An update to the Coroners report states that the female is being charged with murder. She is being treated for a self inflicted injury. Their 6 month old child was in the room at the time of the incident.
Steve Newman February 24, 2014 at 06:44 PM
T22 She should also be charged with child abuse .
The Peacekeeper February 24, 2014 at 06:55 PM
Child endangerment! Furthermore, who owned the gun? Post partum psychosis, munchousen by proxy syndrome or was there a history of domestic violence? Lots of questions which hopefully a thorough investigation will reveal. Nonetheless, that poor baby is a victim, by default. Sad.
William February 24, 2014 at 07:22 PM
Now they got names. http://www.pe.com/local-news/riverside-county/temecula/temecula-headlines-index/20140224-pechanga-woman-accused-of-murder-in-casino-shooting.ece
ChrisG February 24, 2014 at 11:16 PM
Tragic! The outcome for this baby does not look promising. I hope the mother has enough wits to place her child up for adoption. Plenty of caring couple soaking for babies to raise as their own.
southernbelle February 25, 2014 at 10:57 AM
@Peacekeeper and Steve, I wonder if they actually add charges like that to 1st degree murder??? They certainly ought to. Chris, She won't have a choice---the child will automatically be placed into emergency CPS, awaiting family solicits. If no one from the families petition for the child AND check out, the child goes into foster system.
ChrisG February 25, 2014 at 11:09 AM
@belle, that is good to hear. Hopefully her family keeps away and let's another family adopt and care for this child. They didn't do such a good job raising this mother. Chances are she is not an aberration.
Steve Newman February 25, 2014 at 02:46 PM
Belle- the DA can add additional charges after the investigation is complete-whether it be child endangerment or child abuse. Did you know that if you are arrested for DUI you can also be charged for child endangerment/abuse if there is a child in the car. And see I didn't call anybody names.
The Peacekeeper February 25, 2014 at 06:52 PM
My redneck buddy, southernbelle! What Steve said, however those are obviously the lesser charges. Depends on the investigation is what will determine what exact charges are filed and what charges will be included for prosecution.
Alek J Hidell February 26, 2014 at 12:13 AM
They even have a law now for "annoying a minor".... What about us? these punks annoy me all the time!
The Peacekeeper February 26, 2014 at 12:28 AM
Alek, that one's been on the books for well over 20 years.
southernbelle February 27, 2014 at 07:15 PM
Yeah, I saw an updated article on this and she IS charged with child endangerment. And ABSOLUTELY on the DUI!! I think if a a couple is arguing/fighting in front of children ongoing- it is child neglect, also. @PK-- :o)
