Man Files False Police Report; Arrested On The Spot

Edward G. Robinson, 36, of Wildomar was charged filing a false police report and several other crimes.

A man who fled from police in his truck, then abandoned it and escaped on foot, was arrested the following day after he filed a police report claiming his vehicle had been stolen.

Edward G. Robinson, 36, of Wildomar, was charged with filing a false police report, evading a police officer, hit and run, receiving stolen property, displaying false plates, suspended license and unsafe speed.

At around 11 p.m. on March 27, Lake Elsinore police say a silver Toyota pickup truck traveling at a high rate of speed was spotted crossing into opposing traffic lanes several times.

According to a Lake Elsinore Police Department report, an officer attempted to get the driver, Robinson, to pull over. Instead, according to the report, Robinson fled in the truck, abandoned it near Elsinore High School, then ran into a field and escaped capture.

The truck, which had a stolen license plate, continued moving after Robinson jumped out and collided with a fence at the high school, causing moderate damage, according to the report.

The next day, Robinson called the Wildomar Police Department to report his truck stolen.

A Wildomar Police officer went to Robinson’s residence to take a report. The officer had knowledge of Robinson’s activities the night before, according to the report.

Robinson signed a form attesting under penalty of perjury that his truck was stolen and was promptly arrested for filing a false police report.
