Ryan McPhillips, 28, was seen walking in the roadway minutes before police found him.

A 28-year-old Temecula man was found dead Saturday night in Canyon Lake by police officers investigating reports of a pedestrian walking in a roadway, according to authorities.

Ryan McPhillips was found on westbound Railroad Canyon Drive, just east of Town Center Drive, around 10:40 p.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene by fire personnel, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

Investigators determined that McPhillips had been struck by a vehicle, but the driver was not speeding or under the influence, according to Lt. Paul Bennett of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

If they know the driver was not under the influence or speeding that means they have the driver so what more information could people have?

Possibly where the victim was prior to the accident, where was he going, what was his state of mind and many other unanswered questions.

Man Found Dead in Canyon Lake? This is the wrong HEADLINE for this article. How about 'Man Struck by Car in Canyon Lake .. police search for clues to determine why the victim was in the road.

Maybe this man came out of the side of the road into the middle of it & the driver had no time to stop or react. Then the HEADLINE should be suicide by car but they can't really write that either without knowing his state of mind. Hence the need for more info.

We know someone that is a mutual friend of Ryans and said that Ryan was just crossing the road, the person that hit him was driving without headlights on and only turned them on after he left the scene of the accident. This was not a suicide a very tragic accident. RIP Ryan and thoughts and prayers to your family.

I was out partying at the Triangle that night and talked to some friends that stated this guy was acting extremely belligerent putting his arm around one of them who is married saying "I'm married to so what" and was promptly thrown out of Pepe's Cantina. Then this person went to the Lakehouse and messed with one of my other friends, taking her hat off and acting like a drunk jerk and was bounced out of there also. That is when he apparently ran across the street and was struck and killed by the vehicle. I heard he was there with some of his friends but they didn't do a very good job of looking after him in his inebriated state. What a shame...>

Anthony I feel sorry for you. You took the time to write about a person who would even tolerate an idiot like you. You will never be half the man Ryan was nor you will ever meet one. You hate your life, it's obvious, no one in there right mind would write a comment so ignorant and disrespectful as yours. Maybe your upset because he was all up on your mom at the lakehouse and he was gonna get it juicy for her.

I have known Ryan since he was a three year old. What a great and kind little toddler he was. He was my sons best friend those days. I would look down the street and see them with sticks that were made to look like swords swinging them in the air as if they were great warriors. We all were deeply saddened and schocked that such a sweet dispositioned little boy that we knew is gone. We love you Noel, john and girls. May God be with you all. The VanDeusens.
