UPDATED: Man Found In Perris Field Dies From Apparent Gunshot Wound

The man was found shortly after 9 p.m. in the area of 5th and C streets.

A man who was found with a gunshot wound Tuesday night in a Perris field has died, authorities are reporting.

The man, later identified by the coroner's office as Harold Clay, 24, of Perris, was found in the area of 5th and C streets by deputies from the Perris Police Department shortly after 9 p.m. as they were responding to an assault with a deadly weapon call, according to a news release from the sheriff's Central Homicide Unit.

The victim was pronounced dead at 9:53 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Riverside County Coroner's Office report.

"Officers arrived on scene within minutes and located the victim identified only as an adult male lying in an open field suffering from an apparent gunshot wound," the news release stated. 

Medical aid was provided and the victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment, but succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, according to the news release.

Detectives from the Perris Police Department and investigators from the Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit responded and assumed the investigation.
