Man in Wheelchair Dies After Being Hit by Truck
Though struck in a crosswalk at Route 74 and Greenwald, the victim reportedly was crossing against a red light.
A 48-year old man in a wheelchair was struck and killed by a pickup truck shortly before 6 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of State Route 74 and Greenwald Avenue, northeast of Lake Elsinore.
CHP investigators report that a 25-year-old man traveling east on Route 74 in a white Chevrolet truck had a green light and was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting the man in a wheelchair, who was crossing toward Greenwald against the light.
Indications are that no drugs or alcohol were involved, and the traumatized driver of the truck was escorted to his home from the scene by officers. Eastbound Route 74 was closed for several hours while the accident was being investigated.
