Menifee DUI Checkpoint Nets 4 Arrests

With help from Menifee Crime Watch volunteers and the Menifee Police Explorers, deputies stopped drivers in both the eastbound and westbound lanes of Scott Road.

Deputies from the Menifee Police Department Traffic Unit arrested four people this weekend during a DUI/driver’s license checkpoint, a sergeant is reporting.

The checkpoint was located at Scott and Haun roads between the hours of 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 a.m. Sunday.

With help from Menifee Crime Watch volunteers and the Menifee Police Explorers, deputies stopped drivers in both the eastbound and westbound lanes of Scott Road.

Two motorists were arrested on suspicion of DUI; one passenger was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication and a fourth motorist, who was allegedly being investigated for driving with a suspended license, was found to have an outstanding arrest warrant for domestic violence.

In total, 1,403 vehicles went through the checkpoint. In addition to the arrests, more than a dozen citations were issued.

The checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. 

On Dec. 18, the Menifee Police Department announced it had been awarded a $100,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety for a year-long program aimed at preventing deaths and injuries on roadways.

According to the Menifee Police Department, the money will be used in 2014 for:

  • Specialized DUI and drugged driving training such as Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST), Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE), and Drug Recognition Evaluator (DRE).
  • DUI Saturation Patrols
  • Motorcycle safety enforcement
  • Distracted driving enforcement
  • Seat belt and child safety seat enforcement
  • Speed, red light and stop sign enforcement
  • Warrant service operations targeting multiple DUI offenders
  • Compilation of DUI “Hot Sheets,” identifying worst-of-the-worst DUI offenders
