The shooting happened around 4:50 p.m. Thursday in the 27500 block of Medford Way after deputies and a sheriff's helicopter responded to that address, said Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Lisa McConnell.
The man, armed with handgun, ignored orders to drop the gun, she said.
"The subject refused all attempts for a peaceful resolution," McConnell said.
Instead, the man allegedly pointed the gun at deputies, prompting the deputy-involved shooting, she said.
The man, a Menifee resident, died at the scene, according to the county coroner's office.
No deputies were injured. Under department policy, those involved in the shooting will be placed on paid administrative leave, McConnell said.
The shooting is being investigated by the sheriff's Central Homicide Unit. --City News Service
