UPDATED: Menifee Man Fatally Wounded By Police

A man who was allegedly suicidal and threatening deputies was shot and killed Thursday.

UPDATED 9/13 at 7:24 a.m.: An investigation was underway today into the fatal deputy-involved shooting of a 66-year-old man who allegedly pointed a gun at deputies in a Menifee backyard after they responded to a report of a suicidal person.

The shooting happened around 4:50 p.m. Thursday in the 27500 block of Medford Way after deputies and a sheriff's helicopter responded to that address, said Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Lisa McConnell.

The man, armed with handgun, ignored orders to drop the gun, she said.

The man, a Menifee resident, died at the scene, according to the county coroner's office.

No deputies were injured. Under department policy, those involved in the shooting will be placed on paid administrative leave, McConnell said.
