Motorcycle Crashes on Ortega Highway, Shuts Down Road

The crash was reported about 8:20 p.m.

A motorcycle crash on the Ortega Highway Saturday shut down the road on both sides, Patch learned.

The crash, about two miles west of Grand Avenue at Mile Marker 9.5 was reported at 8:18 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

The rider of the Kawasaki JLR 650 -- a man -- was taken to Inland Valley Medical Center with moderate injuries, according to CHP Officer Oscar Valdez.

"The rider was eastbound on the Ortega and it went over the south edge, hits the curb, lost control and slid ... about 70 feet," Valdez told Patch.

Traffic was backed up on both sides for about a mile, Patch learned at the scene.

Hope this guy is alright. Thankful there were no other vehicles involved or it could have been a lot worse.

Amen to that! Anyone know what was going on at Bundy Canyon and Orange last night? Apparently fire trucks, ambulances everywhere.

I left my house down the street and there were 7 sheriff cars and undercover cars . The vests said Probation and gang task force on them. They had about 7-10 people lined up along the driveway. I didn't see any ambulances or firetrucks and this was around 8/8:30pm. Got back after 9pm and they were all gone.

Several people saw the firetrucks and ambulances, on what street did you see this?
Tiffany Luaces September 02, 2012 at 05:37 PM
I live on grove & white and K.B I saw that as well. No firetrucks & ambulance. But maybe they got to the scene early &I left. That house has been under investigation for a while now

Sure are a bunch of cycle crashes that close that road down regular-like, completely, or just enough ta pizz ya off. It may be a good idea to build a Motorcycle Crash Lane, special-like, just for scooter-people who can't keep thier scoot's up on two wheels. Think of the job creation (Union jobs of course) ol' Moonbeam could tout! And nope, I don't feel sorry for all them idiots getting terminal road rash, or broken what have you when they crash their bikes, since I do understand that mostly the folks who crash are going too darn fast for their own good, or skill level. Up where I live the weekends are magnets for Walkin' Cadaver Cotton Tops in motor homes they shouldn't be driving on mountain roads, if at all, or dopes on crotch rockets like the one pictured above, they shouldn't be riding. Sometimes when I am trying to get up or down the mountain, as I head into a curve, LOOK OUT!!, a Cotton Top is half way in MY lane trying to avoid the rocks going up, or the RAILED sheer drop offs, going down. And then of course there are the swarms of Crotch Rocket speed racers, all dressed up lookin' like Teenaged Ninja Turtles. And every now and again, a crotch rocket, meets a Walkin' Cadaver on a curve, and of course that makes me...smile! And whilst Moonbeam is at it, what the heck, perhaps a combination "Special Use Lane", for Walkin Cadaver's in motor homes, AND Crotch Rocket Ninja Turtles would be better for all, and will make for an E-Z Clean-up after a crash, yeah?

Which house is it? I live close to here. Seems nothing was going on despite many people seeing things.

WOW, how surprising this is!!! These guys will never learn....ORTEGA HWY IS NOT A PERSONAL RACE TRACK. I drive it twice a day and I see this ALL the time. They really need to grow up.

Wow !! amased at the insensitivity by some of these comments. Its called an accident! Hope this person is okay.... and ill be praying something like this doesn't happen to the "less caring people".

Janette, "Insensitive"? Nope....it eventually becomes a matter of "conditioning"...I have lived up off this main hwy going deeper into these mountains for 7+ years...and on another not as well traveled road up a mountain for 16 years---and in that time I have been on the unfortunate, and continuing end of having to deal with The Cotton Tops who far too often can't handle thier motor home safely, and/or The Ninja Turtles, who far too often can't handle their motorcycle safely----and their trials and tribulations on the road surely do end up effecting me, far too often also---and it has been so many times I have flat out lost count of the HOURS spent waiting to get up or down the hill, while those folks are cut out of the tangled wreckage (along with whomever they had hit head on) , or scraped up off'n the asphalt----and it GETS OLD after awhile, but just like the E.R. staff at the hospital, or the paramedic, the coroner, even police and fireman, the misery, and carnage suffered by others' can become tolerable, NOT acceptable mind you, but tolerable to a degree...and so to me, I am suffering too, suffering the consequences of someone's hobby, or inability to operate machines that can be very dangerous, even life threatening to themselves, and to other folks who are innocently going about the business of getting from Point A, to Pont B.

They need to ban all crotch rocket motorcycyles from this highway, they are a danger not only to themselves but others that use this road. They race around corners all most in a slide, pass when they shouldn't, I love to ride our Harleys but we sure don't ride like they do.
Vince September 05, 2012 at 03:22 AM
I don't know about banning 'em---I am not a big fan of that type of control. BUT...perhaps a season on 'em, with a bag limit of say, oh, 5 a day...now that right there would be sporting, and they can charge a premium for Ninja Tags taboot! 3 of them got all tangled up the other day, just layin' there in a big ol' colorful heap...On my way back by the Meat Wagon was loadin' up the last of 'em...and what surprised me the most was, them POS scoots laying off the side of the road somehow managed to become more appeaing to me when they was turned into a pile of throw away scrap...I see those "Cluster F wrecks" up here all the time, and I think The World Record was when 6 of those idiots knocked each other down like dominos on a curve... they was spread out like forkin' bowling pins, arms backwards, legs twisted, and writhing in agony...If the cops woulda let me, I woulda sat there and went through my whole twelver, entertained as all git out, sipping my beer 'tween giggles! But yeah, you betcha, despite the fact that I am sick as sick can be of those "weekend warriors" tearing up and down the mountain ...it is terrible when a high speed wreck occurs thanks to a Crotch Rocket trumping common sense.

Maybe people on bikes should calm the hell down on the Ortega. Most accidents are caused by dumb ass bikers thinking they can go 60 around a tight corner. Slow the hell down people or look at what happens
