Motorist Injured In Suspected DUI Crash

The crash was reported at Lake Street, near Nichols Road, about 4:30 p.m., according to a sheriff's sergeant.

Alcohol may have fueled a crash that left one man injured and his car a wreck in Lake Elsinore tonight.

Ferman Betancourt, 31, of Lake Elsinore, was taken to Inland Valley Medical Center for treatment and observation following the crash, which was reported about 4:30 p.m.

The crash occurred on Lake Street, near Nichols Road, where a red Toyota driven by Betancourt drifted over into oncoming traffic and struck a white Chevrolet Truck and a silver Volvo sedan, sheriff's Sgt. David Sanches said.

Lake Street was closed from Nichols Road to Temescal Canyon Road for about three hours while the crash was investigated.

Investigators believe that alcohol played a part in the crash and though officials did not say Betancourt was a suspect, under federal confidentiality laws, names of accident victims usually are not released if an arrest is not made.

One of my sister-in-laws drove by and said it was a real mess. I saw to fender benders one at th corner of Machad & Grand and one about 1000 ft. from Machado & Grand on Machado. Week-end-warriors are the worst.

This bastard barely missed hitting my friend, this could have been her hurt or dead. So sad for those who were hurt. I hope this person lives with alot of guilt from all this.

I saw some gal on Lake street yesterday, she was driving in front of us, she was going super slow and talking on her cell and smoking a joint. At the lights we had to beep for her to go. Yep, having medicinal marijuana is a good thing!! Whatever!

Medicinal MJ laws do not give anyone the legal right to drive under the influence. The same applies to pain medications, sleeping aids, and some over the counter medications. If you suspect someone of a DUI, call 911.

So, does that mean that we have drunk drivers because you can buy alcohol legally? One has nothing to do with the other.... driving under the influence of anything is the problem... it has nothing to do with medical marajuana....

It would be hard to prove a negative. Are you insinuating that the money for additional police…Read More protection was wasted? Seems like simple logic to me that increased police presence over time would result in less crime, which would in-turn lead to more tourism, which would bring in more money for the City. Laguna Niguel is ranked every year as one of the safest cities in the U.S. Since there's so little crime there, why do they waste their money on any police at all???

In his quotes that day he mentioned that when Kaiser started charging for their new structure, they almost immediately changed their mind because the response was so negative. Supervisor Jeffries' main interest in supporting a study of all the county's parking facilities was to determine whether we could save money on the parking structures we already charge for by going to an automated system, rather than staffing it full time with multiple county employees. We have been told that we are actually losing money on the fees we collect for parking, and if that is true, we want to either switch to a cheaper collection system or eliminate the fees entirely.

Let's see if just one elected official can so SOMETHING!!! other than sitting around trying to figure out more and more ways to separate us from our money. Do you have a clue as to what's going on around you? Do you get out of bed in the morning? turn on the TV? go outside? You are 10 years too late. That kind of thing from elected politicians is over. Stop trying to raise money. There are so many things out there you could be doing to make a good name for yourself, and 99% of those things involve cutting spending. Get to the bottom of some things. Imagine how people would react to that. They would swarm at your feet and hold you in high regard. And if you ever find yourself in the hospital, I will gladly come visit you as long as I dont have to pay to park.
