Multiple Crashes Jam Freeway Traffic In Southwest Riverside County

Two crashes caused serious delays for southbound I-15 commuters Wednesday.

A vehicle that overturned on the southbound 15 Freeway at Diamond Drive in Lake Elsinore added to Wednesday’s already heavy traffic in Southwest Riverside County.

Shortly before 12:30 p.m., Cal Fire/Riverside County firefighters responded to the solo-vehicle crash that injured two. Both people were transported by ground ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of minor to moderate injuries, according to a report from Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Jody Hagemann.

Per unconfirmed reports, the crash caused damage to a freeway K-rail and traffic was backed up on the southbound I-15 to Central Avenue.

Earlier in the day, and jammed traffic throughout Southwest Riverside County.

The crash was reported at 7:49 a.m. at the Winchester off-ramp.

Traffic was backed up through Wildomar on the southbound 15 Freeway and several lanes were shut down at the crash scene. Traffic on the southbound 215 from Menifee to the split was also jammed.

All lanes on the 15 Freeway were finally reopened around 12:30 p.m.

The California Highway Patrol has described injuries in the jack-knife incident as "minor."
