Pedestrian Injury Being Ruled 'Tragic Accident'

Kaitlyn Parra, 16, who had just entered her senior year at Murrieta Valley High School, was struck by a car last Tuesday afternoon after getting off a public bus on Prielipp Road in Wildomar.

The Aug. 16 accident in Wildomar that critically injured a Murrieta high school senior is currently being called a “tragic accident,” police said today.

According to Cpl. Courtney Donowho, spokeswoman for the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, the teen exited the bus, walked in front of it, and was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound on Prielipp near Yamas Drive.

The car that struck Kaitlyn is believed to be a maroon Mitsubishi Lancer.

The corporal said the driver was interviewed and released at the scene.

“It is being called a ‘tragic accident,’ but an investigation continues,” Cpl. Donowho said.

The driver was not arrested, the corporal added.

Kaitlyn remains in a coma induced by doctors to stabilize her brain injuries.

"She remains in critical condition," Cpl. Donowho said.
