Pedestrian Injury Being Ruled 'Tragic Accident'

The Aug. 16 accident in Wildomar that critically injured a Murrieta high school senior is currently being called a “tragic accident,” police said today.

Kaitlyn Parra, 16, who had just entered her senior year at Murrieta Valley High School, was struck by a car last Tuesday afternoon after getting off a public bus on Prielipp Road in Wildomar. ( to read about the accident.)

According to Cpl. Courtney Donowho, spokeswoman for the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, the teen exited the bus, walked in front of it, and was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound on Prielipp near Yamas Drive.

The car that struck Kaitlyn is believed to be a maroon Mitsubishi Lancer.

The corporal said the driver was interviewed and released at the scene.

“It is being called a ‘tragic accident,’ but an investigation continues,” Cpl. Donowho said.

The driver was not arrested, the corporal added.

Kaitlyn remains in a coma induced by doctors to stabilize her brain injuries.

"She remains in critical condition," Cpl. Donowho said.
