Plane Crash Update: KFI's Mike Nolan Out Of Hospital

According to Bill Handel and other members of the KFI morning show, Nolan suffered a broken collar bone, broken ribs and lacerations.

A veteran KFI traffic reporter, who was injured when his single-engine plane lost power and crashed in Corona last week, is out of the hospital and recovering at home today.

The longtime aviator told colleagues at KFI 640 AM in Los Angeles that he was flying at about 2,000 feet when the aircraft's engine quit, forcing him to find an alternative spot to set down, without enough altitude to make it to the airport.

During the emergency landing, the aircraft clipped several power lines and nosed into the ground near North Lincoln Avenue and River Road.

Nolan and his passenger, identified only as a relative of a friend and an aspiring pilot, were able to clamber out of the wreckage before the plane burst into flames.

According to Allen Kenitzer, spokesman for the Federal Aviation Adminstration, preliminary investigation indicates the plane lost power.

According to Bill Handel and other members of the KFI morning show, Nolan suffered a broken collar bone, broken ribs and lacerations. His passenger was also treated for lacerations, but none of the injuries were life-threatening.

"Both are going to be just fine," Handel said during this morning's broadcast. "He's such a good pilot, it doesn't surprise me at all that he was able to bring the thing down."

"He's just glad the alternative didn't take place," added morning co-host Rich Mirada.

More than 3,500 homes lost power when the electrical lines were clipped. Electricity has since been restored to the residences. --City News Service and Toni McAllister contributed to this report.
