UPDATE: KFI's Mike Nolan Injured In Corona Plane Crash

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

UPDATE 9:13 P.M.: KFI Radio traffic reporter Mike Nolan has been injured in a plane crash in Corona.

“Today at 6:18 p.m., KFI AM 640’s longtime traffic reporter, Mike Nolan, was involved in a plane accident just east of the Corona Municipal Airport. Current reports state that both Mike and his passenger escaped with non life-threatening injuries. It appears engine malfunction was the primary cause,” the radio station is reporting.

The single engine Cessna 182 that Nolan was piloting crashed in a field near the airport and caught fire.

According to Allen Kenitzer, spokesman for the Federal Aviation Adminstration, preliminary investigation indicates the plane lost power.

On its way down, the Cessna hit power lines near River Road and Lincoln Avenue.

Nolan’s passenger has not been identified.

The FAA Registry shows the fixed wing single-engine plane was manufactured in 1975 and is owned by Nolan and his wife, Laurie.

Nolan, better known to locals as the “Eye in the Sky” for his daily traffic news reports from above, has been a pilot since 1969, according to KFI.

He came to the station in 1986 with prior traffic news experience.

“Whether on the ground or in the air, Mike’s over 30-year-career of covering traffic makes him one of the most experienced traffic reporters in the country,” KFI reports.

The cause of Friday’s crash remains under investigation.
