Details:

On March 27, 2011, at about 2300 hours, Lake Elsinore police officers saw a silver Toyota pick-up truck traveling southbound at a high rate of speed. The officer continued to follow the truck and it crossed into opposing lanes of traffic several times. The officer then attempted a vehicle stop and the driver (Edward G. Robinson) did not yield to the officers. The driver fled in the truck until he abandoned the vehicle in the area of Elsinore High School. The driver ran into a field and was able to get away from police. The truck continued moving and collided with a fence at the school causing moderate damage to the fence. The truck also had a stolen license plate on it that was taken about six weeks ago. Officers had the truck towed and stored.

On March 28, 2011, Robinson called the Wildomar Police Department to report his truck stolen. Wildomar Police had prior information that Robinson had been involved in a police action the night before and was wanted. A Wildomar Police officer went to Robinson’s residence to take his report. Robinson signed a form attesting under penalty of perjury that his truck was stolen. After he signed the form he was promptly arrested for filing a false police report.

Edward G. Robinson, 36 years, of Wildomar, was also charged with:

    • Evading a police officer
    • Hit and Run
    • Receiving stolen property
    • Displaying false plates
    • Suspended license and unsafe speed

Anyone with further information about these auto thefts, or any other criminal activity in Lake Elsinore is encouraged to contact the Lake Elsinore Police Department at 951-245-3300 or after hours and on weekends at 951-776-1099.
