UPDATE: Police Find Suspected Car Thief Blamed In Lake Elsinore Crash

According to jail records, he is convicted felon.

UPDATED at 3:50 p.m.: The suspected car thief believed to have triggered an April 8 multi-vehicle crash while being chased by deputies in Lake Elsinore has been found.

Robert Gregory Ulloa, 22, of Perris was arrested April 9 around 2:30 p.m. in his city of residence. According to jail records, he is a convicted felon.

His arrest came as deputies stationed in Perris were attempting to locate a stolen vehicle from Menifee that was equipped with LoJack, according to Sgt. Robert Novak of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. Undercover deputies located the stolen vehicle in Perris, but the driver, identified as Ulloa, sped away when a marked patrol unit began to follow him, the sergeant explained.

The chase ended when Ulloa lost control of the vehicle and crashed. "The suspect exited the stolen vehicle and fought with law enforcement until he was subdued and placed under arrest," Novak reported.

Ulloa had also been sought in connection with a stolen Honda Civic out of Perris that was involved in a police chase and a crash in Lake Elsinore, Sgt. Ken Chaffin of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department reported.

On April 8 around 7:50 p.m., a deputy spotted the Honda heading eastbound on Riverside Drive toward Lake Crest Drive, Chaffin explained.

“A computer check of the vehicle's license plate revealed it had been reported stolen out of the city of Perris the previous day,” Chaffin reported.

The deputy called for backup and continued following the alleged stolen car to a dead end at Lake Crest Drive.

“Upon arriving at the end of the street, the officer activated his overhead emergency lighting and exited his vehicle,” the sergeant reported.

The Honda driver turned the car around and allegedly began driving toward the deputy at a high rate of speed.

“The officer was forced to dive inside his vehicle to avoid being struck by the suspect vehicle,” Chaffin reported.

Deputies who had been patched in on the call spotted the Honda turning eastbound on Riverside Drive from Lake Crest Drive. A chase began and the Honda continued speeding eastbound on Riverside Drive toward Lakeshore Drive, Chaffin explained.

Just before getting to the Lakeshore Drive/Lash Street intersection, the Honda driver moved into oncoming lanes and collided with two vehicles traveling in the opposite direction, Chaffin reported.

The smashup disabled the Honda and the driver jumped out and fled the scene on foot, according to the sergeant.

A female passenger was found in the Honda and was detained by deputies but later released. She was uninjured, Chaffin said.

None of the victims in the other crash vehicles were injured, Chaffin reported.

Through investigation, it was determined Ulloa was behind the wheel of the Honda during the police pursuit and the crash, according to the sergeant’s report.

Jail records show Ulloa is currently behind held at Southwest Detention Center on suspicion of multiple felonies including taking an owner’s vehicle without consent, evading a peace officer/reckless driving, receiving known stolen property, and resisting arrest. Jail records also show he’s being held on suspicion of firearm possession and possession of ammunition by a felon.
