Police ID Body Found In Lakeland Village

Police are not releasing information on how he was killed or whether there are any suspects in the case.

Police have confirmed that a man who went missing from Lake Elsinore in June was the victim of foul play.

The body of Leopoldo Navarrete, 58, was found near Akley Street in Lakeland Village July 19, but it wasn't until today that the Riverside County Sheriff's Department confirmed the identity.

Evidence showed Navarrete was the victim of a homicide, according to a news release today from the Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station. Police are not releasing information on how he was killed or whether there are any suspects in the case.

Police believed from the start of the investigation that Navarrete may have been a victim of foul play.

The Riverside Sheriff's Central Homicide worked with detectives from the Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station, and several searches were conducted using aircraft over the area as well as divers in the lake.

Navarrete was reported missing by family members on June 14.
