Police Narrow In On Hit-And-Run Driver; Public's Help Sought

Police have narrowed their search to the following suspect vehicles: 2007-2012 Chevrolet Avalanche, 2007-2012 Chevrolet Tahoe, and 2007-2012 Chevrolet Suburban.

The California Highway Patrol released new information today in hopes of finding the hit-and-run driver who killed a Temecula man more than a year ago.

In the early morning hours of Oct. 4, 2011, Douglas O’Husky, 54, was traveling north on the 215 Freeway through Menifee, just south of Newport Road, in a red Hyundai Accent when he was struck from behind by another vehicle.

The collision caused O’Husky to lose control of the Accent and overturn. He was not wearing a seatbelt, police reported.

No arrests were made in the case, and no drivers came forward to claim responsibility.

Today CHP officer Nathan Baer announced a new development in the case.

At the crash scene investigation on Oct. 4, 2011, CHP officers collected small amounts of vehicle debris left by the suspect vehicle, Baer explained, noting that the evidence was submitted to the California Department of Justice Bureau of Forensic Services.

“An analysis … by the Department of Justice revealed that the debris came from the right front headlight assembly distributed by General Motors. This headlight assembly was installed on the following vehicles: 2007-2012 Chevrolet Avalanche, 2007-2012 Chevrolet Tahoe, and 2007-2012 Chevrolet Suburban,” Baer said.

The color of the suspect vehicle has not been released by authorities.

“With this new update we are once again asking the public’s help in locating the hit-and-run-driver and vehicle,” he continued. “If anyone has information regarding this collision please call the Temecula Area CHP office at 951-506-2000.”
